Initial Consultation for Students and Parents
Initial meeting with student, helping to plan high school coursework, explore interests leading to extracurricular activities and service projects, summer enrichment or employment choices.
Encourage students to develop their passions and interests into meaningful pursuits.
Provide an overview of the timeline and steps towards the college admission process for student and their parents.
Help to establish a strong foundation beginning freshman and sophomore year; begin to create the climate towards motivation and success.
Junior/Senior Year Advising - There is great advantage to beginning the college advising process early in the Junior Year.
Junior Year Advising
Junior year consultation provides full evaluation of the student's academic, extracurricular, service and personal background. Identify strengths and address additional areas to strengthen.
Recommendations for Test Prep tutoring/courses that are "tried and true" and which meet individual learning styles. Develop time line for test prep and test scheduling for SAT, SAT subject tests, ACT and AP testing.
Review of student's academic and career interests, beginning college selection process, visitation planning, and develop initial list of colleges defining "individual interest" and "right fit".
Learn how to make the most of college visits; determine who to meet with and how to evaluate the college's resources and community.
Discuss the importance of teacher recommendations, and start to consider which teachers the student will ask for recommendations.
Provide ongoing support and education for parents and student to work together towards their student's success.
Senior Year Advising
Fine-tune college list. Strategize Early Decision/Early Action Choices entering the application process.
Resume and Essay writing; brainstorming, editing and support.
Plan approach for the student's college applications, focusing on essays, the brag sheet, teacher's recommendations, and consider any supplemental materials to include in the student's best representation of themselves.
Prepare students for interviews.
Support the student's decision making process following admission offers, waiting list status, and admitted student visitation days.
Performing Arts/Music Major Advising
My experience and background with student artists and performers will facilitate your polished and professional application desired by these highly competitive programs
BFA, BM or BA Programs with Auditions: Musical Theater, Theater, Vocal Performance, Instrumental Music or Dance majors; Parents and students are given the specific assistance necessary to effectively apply to these highly selective college programs. A specialized concentration in the performing arts requires preparation and scheduling of audition material, separate arts related resume, essays and teacher recommendations in addition to standard application process.
Art Major Package
Film, Fine Arts, Photography require portfolios and interviews in addition to standard application process.
Special Needs Students Advising
There exists a great fit college for every student who wishes to attend college. I am committed to encouraging and inspiring students who have been "classified" in high school to attend college. Today's college campus is equipped with learning centers, tutoring centers and unique programs to facilitate the special student's smooth transition into the college classroom. I have many years of experience helping students orient themselves to the special resources available to them.
Many schools have registration requirements in order to avail of special services and accommodations such as special test taking provisions, note taking assistance, study help and psychological counseling centers.
Students with learning disabilities or emotional concerns can be successful with the correct structure and support. Special Needs Advising addresses these issues and more.
